In the vibrant metropolis of Bangkok, the German artist Ulrich Gottlieb is presenting his latest exhibition, which examines the themes of transience and transformation in an unusual and fascinating way. The artist, who is known for his work with everyday subjects and objects, is showing a collection of run-over cans that he found during travels in Greece. These objects, which were once banal disposable items, he has coated with a layer of radiant gold leaf, transforming them into sculptural works of art.
Each can is presented individually on a white column, making it look like a relic in a minimalist temple. The sterile, almost sacred frame draws the viewer's gaze to the shape and texture of the cans, which tell an individual story through their deformations. The gold coating emphasizes the contrasts: between the worthless and the valuable, the forgotten and the respected, consumption and art.
